Project 10.
Shell Shallow Water Geohazard Survey
Beaufort Sea, Alaska

Project Owner: Fugro GeoServices, Inc. (Former Geo LLC / GeoEngineers)
Prime: No
Subcontract: Yes / Fugro GeoServices, Inc.

In summer of 2006 to 2008, Fugro GeoServices, Inc (formerly known as Geo LLC / GeoEngineers) was contracted by Royal Dutch Shell to perform a three-year shallow water geohazard survey program in Beaufort Sea, Alaska. The survey was conducted at various proposed well sites using sidescan sonar, multibeam echo sounder, multiple sub-bottom profiling systems, bubble pulser and seismic system (air gun). OIC was hired to execute sonar data acquisition, post-acquisition processing, and support for other data acquisition operations.

OIC’s GeoDAS software was used to acquire seafloor imagery and bathymetry data using Teledyne Benthos SIS-1500 towed sidescan sonar and Reson Seabat 8101ER hull-mounted multibeam echo sounder. OIC’s CleanSweep post processing software was used to produce high resolution seafloor imagery and bathymetry contour maps.

Despite the variable weather and sea ice conditions, more than 2,000 miles of survey line data were successfully acquired during the three-year program.
